WASHINGTON / RankWire.AI / – Next week, the U.S. Treasury Department has planned a series of three debt auctions totaling $119 billion. The schedule kicks off on Oct. 6 with a sale of $58 billion in three-year notes. On Oct. 7, Treasury will auction $39 billion of 10-year notes, followed by a final offering on Oct. 8 of $22 billion in 30-year bonds. These offerings align with the Treasury’s regular financing calendar and follow the sizes outlined in its latest quarterly refunding schedule.

The new three-year note, maturing on Oct. 15, 2029, will be a fresh issuance. Meanwhile, the 10-year note will be a reopening of an existing 4.625% security, maturing on Aug. 15, 2036. Similarly, the 30-year bond will reopen a 5.125% security that matures on Aug. 15, 2056. Reopening an existing security increases the total amount outstanding while keeping the original coupon rate and maturity date intact. Investors have the option to submit both competitive and noncompetitive bids through Treasury’s standard auction process.
All three securities are scheduled to settle on Oct. 15, according to the published schedule from the U.S. Treasury Department. In a competitive bid, investors specify the yield they will accept, while noncompetitive bidders agree to accept the yield determined during the auction. Following each sale, Treasury releases final pricing and bidding data, including the high yield, accepted bids, and allotment details. These notes and bonds pay fixed interest and serve as a significant part of the federal marketable debt.
Treasury prepares for three consecutive debt offerings
These October auctions continue the pattern established by September’s sales of the same 10-year and 30-year securities. On Sept. 9, Treasury sold $39 billion of the 10-year note, which had a high yield of 4.834% and drew about $105.8 billion in bids, resulting in a bid-to-cover ratio of 2.71. This security has a 4.625% coupon and matures in August 2036. The upcoming October reopening will add another $39 billion of this note to the outstanding amount.
Additionally, on Sept. 10, Treasury sold $22 billion of the 30-year bond, which yielded a high of 5.308%. Investors bid approximately $57.5 billion, leading to a bid-to-cover ratio of 2.61. The bond offers a 5.125% coupon and will mature in August 2056. The October auction will see an additional $22 billion of this security. Final yield, price, accepted bids, and allotment details will be announced after Thursday’s sale closes.
Matching auction sizes with October’s financing targets
These auctions are part of a broader borrowing plan for the last quarter of 2026. The Treasury projected $628 billion of net marketable borrowing for the period from October through December, based on an assumed cash balance of $850 billion at year’s end. The government raises marketable debt through regular sales of bills, notes, bonds, and other securities. Through its established financing process, the Treasury adjusts issuance across maturities and publishes auction schedules and borrowing estimates to keep investors informed.
The total of $119 billion matches the amounts outlined in the Treasury’s August financing plan for October. That schedule called for $58 billion of three-year notes, $39 billion of 10-year notes, and $22 billion of 30-year bonds. The sequence begins on Tuesday with the three-year auction, followed by the 10-year sale on Wednesday and the 30-year auction on Thursday. Official results, including pricing, yield, and demand data, will be released after each auction, providing insights into the upcoming week’s three U.S. government debt offerings.
